No prior knowledge needed. We start with the question of what Copilot actually does with an input. Mixed groups are the normal case: anyone who has never worked with AI keeps up, and anyone who has used it for a while gets the depth that everyday use leaves out. All that is required is a Copilot licence per person, otherwise nobody can take part.

Copilot is not a separate program you open on top of everything else. It sits inside the applications that are already running, and it behaves differently in each of them.

Word

Produce drafts, shorten and rewrite text, keep templates consistent.

Excel

Analyse and summarise data, have formulas explained, check whether the result holds.

Teams

Summarise meetings, pull out open points, spot what was left out.

Outlook

Prepare mails, summarise long threads, adjust draft replies.

Why this training

Copilot is there. It is barely used.

Companies buy Copilot licences and then find that little happens. Staff open the field, type in a question, get a mediocre answer and carry on as before.

That is rarely the tool’s fault. It is because nobody has shown them why Copilot does something different in Word than in Excel, which data it can see at all, and how to tell that a result is wrong.

This training closes that gap. In one day, in your own Microsoft 365 environment, on real tasks from your own organisation.

Course overview

The work happens on real tasks.

The day takes place in the Microsoft 365 environment your people work in every day. The work happens on the real accounts, on real documents. Participants bring their own recurring tasks and solve them during the training.

  • Every block ends with an exercise. Participants apply what was shown straight away to a task of their own.
  • Honest about the limits. We also show where Copilot is worse than other tools or than doing it by hand. That saves expensive detours.
  • Checking is part of it. Every result gets a checking routine. Unchecked output does not leave the training as accepted practice.
  • Possible without prior knowledge. The day starts at the foundations and ends at your own tasks. Mixed groups get through it together too.
  • What is needed technically. Every person needs an active Microsoft 365 account with a Copilot licence and their own laptop.

Module 1 · Morning · How Copilot works

Guiding question: what does Copilot do with my input, which data can it see, and how do I recognise a bad result?

  • Placing Copilot as a language model: what sets it apart from a freely available assistant and what it has in common with one.
  • How Copilot is embedded in Microsoft 365: which documents, mails and calendars it reaches, and what it does not see.
  • An overview of what it can and cannot do, with clear examples for both sides.
  • Prompting for Copilot: how to build instructions that work, the typical mistakes, and why the same wording lands differently in Word than in Excel.
  • Data protection as a work routine: which content has no business in which context. This is about behaviour at the keyboard; the legal assessment stays with your lawyers.

Module 2 · Afternoon · Copilot in Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook

Guiding question: which of my recurring tasks can Copilot take over, and how do I make the result safe?

  • Word: produce drafts, shorten and rewrite existing text, keep templates consistent.
  • Excel: have data analysed and summarised, have formulas explained, and recognise when an analysis does not hold.
  • Teams: summarise meetings, pull out open points, and check what the summary left out.
  • Outlook: prepare mails, summarise long threads, create and adjust draft replies.

AI literacy under Article 4 of the EU AI Act

Every participant receives a Hill Digital certificate: the documented, auditable measure for meeting the AI literacy obligation under Article 4 of the EU AI Act. That obligation has applied since 2 February 2025 to every company using AI systems.

Do I need a Copilot licence for the training?

Yes. The training works directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. Every participant needs an active Microsoft 365 account with a Copilot licence and their own laptop. That is a technical condition, not a content one: you do not need prior AI knowledge, you do need a licence, because otherwise nobody can take part.

What is the difference between Microsoft 365 Copilot and the free Copilot?

The freely available Copilot is a general assistant with no access to your company data. Microsoft 365 Copilot is embedded in your Microsoft 365 environment and can reach the documents, mails and appointments a person is already authorised to see. That difference is exactly what makes it useful at work and, at the same time, in need of explanation. This training covers the embedded version.

Does Copilot see all the data in the company?

No. Copilot works within the permissions a person already holds in Microsoft 365. Someone without access to a folder gets nothing from it through Copilot either. The training shows what follows from that in practice: Copilot makes badly maintained permissions visible, though it did not create them.

How long is the training, for how many people, and where does it take place?

A full day for up to 12 participants, at your premises. Hill Digital is based in Vienna and works across Austria and the German-speaking region. We split larger groups across several dates so every person can work along on their own machine.

What does the training cost?

We agree date and price individually, because scope, group size and location shape the day. The Article 4 certificate is always included. We settle the frame in a short in-house scoping call.

Is there an open date for individuals as well?

No. This training exists only as in-house training. The work happens in your own Microsoft 365 environment and on your real tasks, and that is not possible in an open group with other people’s accounts and data. For individuals without a company licence there is the open training AI at Your Desk.

Do I need prior knowledge, and who is the training for?

No, you do not need prior knowledge. The training is aimed at people in specialist departments who work with Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook every day. We start with the question of what Copilot actually does with an input, and work from there to your own task. Mixed groups are the normal case and no problem: anyone who has never worked with AI keeps up, and anyone who has used it for a while gets the depth that everyday use leaves out.

Does this meet the AI literacy obligation under Article 4 of the EU AI Act?

Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 of the EU AI Act requires every company that uses AI to ensure sufficient AI literacy among its staff. Every participant receives a Hill Digital certificate documenting the training, which serves as evidence of that measure. Whether your company meets the obligation as a whole also depends on whom you train and how you use AI. That assessment is a legal question and does not belong in a training.

Does the training cover legal questions such as liability and copyright?

No. We treat data protection as a work routine: which content belongs where. Questions of liability, copyright and the legal interpretation of the EU AI Act belong in legal advice and are not part of this training.
